Why do people unusually need Lie Detectors in Los Angeles?

There are two main reasons people come to us requesting a polygraph test - they suspect cheating in a romantic relationship, or they are concerned about an employee or business issue.

Using a Lie Detector to Catch a Cheater

Asking your partner you suspect of cheating to come in for a polygraph test can be a tough sell - they would have plenty of reasons not to comply with your wishes, though sometimes partners are very happy to do it so they can clear their name. If you haven't yet confronted your partner with your suspicions, you have some other options before resorting to a lie detector test. You would tip them off to your suspicions by requesting the test. If you want to collect more evidence before confronting them, our investigators can help catch a cheater in the act with our surveillance services.

By having our investigators first do some surveillance work on them, you can then make a more informed decision on how to proceed. Once you're sure you're ready to confront your partner, they may even offer to take a polygraph to make you feel better, with the assumption you won't take them up on it. Well, they don't know you've got Doerner Investigations working for you, and if you are anywhere in Los Angeles, Ventura or Santa Barbara counties, you can get a professionally run lie detector test scheduled quickly. Once they agree to a lie detector test, and they have nothing to hide, they should be ok with taking the test.

Using a Polygraph for Employees

Using a lie detector test to vet potential employees is one way to decide if you want to hire someone, but running a high quality background check through a private investigator like Doerner can yield excellent results without risking insulting your new employee. Our background checks are significantly more thorough than anything you could run yourself on the internet. That doesn't mean that polygraphs don't have their place to make sure you are hiring well.

Are you wanting a polygraph test for your employees because maybe you found some illegal substances at your workplace and you want to know who brought them? A lie detector test is excellent for this purpose, but can also work great in conjunction with a K9 detective who can sniff out any other contraband that may be on premises. The combination of both the dog and the polygraph would leave the guilty party nowhere to hide.

How Does The Polygraph Work?

The polygraph acts like a recorder; its instruments record physiological changes occurring in the body while the examiner asks questions. As the person is questioned about certain events or an incident, the examiner records and monitors the changes in the person’s blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and electro-dermo activities.

The process includes three phases:

  1. The pre-test wherein the examinee and the examiner become acquainted, as there is a chance for the examinee to learn about the equipment and how it works. Exact questions that will be asked during the test are agreed upon at this time.
  2. The equipment is attached to the person being tested and the test begins. Following all instructions is very important.
  3. In the final, post-test phase, the data is reviewed with the person tested.

The polygraph examination is used by law enforcement agencies, prosecution and defense attorneys, as well as by companies and corporations. Research reveals that polygraph examinations show between a 90-95% accuracy rate if administered by a qualified examiner.

We take polygraph examinations very seriously. The examination results can potentially impact a person’s relationship, employment, or the results of a civil or criminal matter. Polygraph testing, including the pre-test interview, may take between 1.5 to 4 hours.

Polygraph Instructions for participants:

  1. Please refrain from ingesting alcoholic beverages or illegal substances for 24 hours prior to the examination.
  2. If you take prescription medications, please take them as prescribed by your physician.
  3. If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a pre-existing heart condition, please consult with your physician prior to the examination to ensure that you are physically able to take the exam.

* All employee screening polygraph examinations are conducted in full compliance with the Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988.
